How do I set up the RTC-1000 or SB-100 PRO to work on the web?
Solution - as provided by Icon Time Systems:
To do this, you will need to have the following:
- A Broadband internet connection (Cable, DSL, T1, etc.) at the location of the clock.
- A "Port-Forwarding" router (Most newer routers can do this.)
- An Icon Time Systems RTC-1000 or SB-100 PRO connected to your router by an ethernet (ie. CAT5) cable.
NOTE: A static external IP address, while unnecessary, may help in the process. (This would be obtained by your ISP, or Internet Service Provider.)
Set up your clock so that you can access it on your local network internally (Instructions for this are on the Quick Start Guide). If you can open your time clock's home page from your internal network using an IP address that begins with 192.168..., you can start setting up remote access.
The next step is to configure your router to use port-forwarding. This will forward external requests on port 80 to the private IP address of your RTC-1000 or SB-100 PRO. The internal or private port must be set to TCP port 80 on your router, or the clock will not respond. If you are unsure how to configure your router, you may need to consult the router's documentation or call the manufacturer of your router. Also, if you have I.T. personnel or a computer consultant, they most likely can assist you with your router's settings.
NOTE: If you do not have port 80 available, you can forward port 9844 on your router. If you use this port, add this information to the address of your time clock in your Web browser. For example: http://66.213.247.254:9844/
After you configure your router correctly, you should be able to connect to the clock through the internet by logging onto the router's external ip address (provided by your ISP). There are a couple of ways to find this address:
- On a computer local to the clock, go to www.whatismyip.com
- Log into your router and look in your router's settings for the WAN (Wide Area Network) address.
NOTE: If you cannot connect to the clock, check to make sure you do not have a firewall activated between the computer and the clock that may be blocking incoming communication. Other things to check for are: an incorrect IP address or port number, duplicate IP addresses, additional filter settings on your router, etc.
