How to replace a Lathem mechanical clock ribbon

Using the 2387 Lathem key, remove the top. 
On the lower left and right is a flat metal plate with a 45 degree angle.  Press it down and toward the wall.  This releases the movement.  It swings up and locks at a 90 degree angle, out of the way, exposing the ribbon.  The ribbon is held on by two spring clips.  Carefully remove them and set aside.

Put a pen or pencil under the ribbon fork, get it out of the way.  Remove and replace the ribbon.  The black (or dark purple) goes to the inside, red to the outside, closer to you.
Drop the fork back down, install the ribbon clips.
Release the movement, drop it down and set the time.
Tip:  One easy way to advance the time is to simply spin the large gear on the back of the movement.  One full rotation (it makes a "thunk") is one minute. 10 rotations = 10 minutes.
